Review version of the book by Eric E. Cane.

Helene’s life changes drastically with her haunting visions. Unknowingly, she calls together an unusual group of people to stand with her to face the end of the world and that which follows.

Helene at the End of the World is a thought-provoking, stark tale about the qualities we bring with us after this life.

Excerpt:

Chi searched Helene’s eyes.

“‘I am come into this world for you,’ he said,” Helene said. “What does that mean? That he’s not from this world?”

Chi shook her head and was silent for a few seconds. “I don’t hear a man speak in the visions,” Chi said. “I hear someone both male and female. I don’t know how else to describe it. Strength and subtlety. Masculine, feminine all in one voice. A wonderful voice, but unforgiving.”

“Yes,” Helene said. “Unforgiving. Yes.”

“Does he destroy the world?” Chi asked. “Does man?” Chi started to say something, but held back.

“Do I destroy it?” Helene finished for her.

Chi didn’t respond.

“Maybe I do,” Helene said.

Chi sat back on the bench. Helene rested her head on Chi’s shoulder.

They were both silent for a long time before Helene finally said, “If it is me, then maybe you should kill me.” Chi stiffened against her. “Maybe you aren’t my protector, Chi. Maybe you’re the world’s protector.”

They were silent.
